China launches Pre-6G test Network, have 10 times higher capacity than 5G

China has launched the world's first 'pre-6G' (Pre-6G) test network, taking its communication technology to the next level. The network was officially launched recently in Nanjing, the capital of east China's Jiangsu Province. The new network is said to have a capacity 10 times higher than the current 5G. It has features such as high bandwidth, long-distance coverage, low latency and easy integration of artificial intelligence (AI). It has launched a new phase of systematic verification in the communications sector, which will lay a solid foundation for the global standard of 6G in the future.

The network is currently conducting tests in four major areas. These include low-altitude inspection, industrial manufacturing, robotics and embedded intelligence, and holographic communication.

According to senior market analyst Ma Zihua, the launch of Pre-6G will further strengthen the advanced version of 5G, '5G-A' (5G-Advanced). The trial is said to be helpful in meeting the goals of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), which will address the growing demand in sectors such as aerospace, new energy and new materials. China has already established the world's largest 5G network. By the end of March 2026, the number of 5G base stations in China had reached 4.958 million, and advanced 5G-A services were available in 330 cities. This strong foundation has given China the opportunity to become the world's first-mover in 6G technology.
