Now Gmail users will be able to change their old email address. After the new update that Google is going to bring, you can change your Gmail address directly. This new feature is currently being rolled out gradually (publicly). For now, its detailed description has been seen on Google's Hindi language support page. According to which, when you choose your new Gmail address, your old email address will remain as an 'alias'.
Changing this way will not affect any data in your account such as photos, messages and old emails. Users will be able to sign in to Google services such as Maps, YouTube and Drive using both their old or new email addresses.
Emails sent to both addresses will be received in the same inbox. So there is no fear of missing important messages. Google has also set some limits for using this feature. According to which users will be able to change their email only once in 12 months.
Similarly, an email address can be changed only 3 times in a single account. This means that a person can have a total of 4 address options. The new email address cannot be deleted for 12 months after it is created. No one else can use your old email address and it will always be yours. It is not certain when this feature will be fully available to everyone, but it is expected to be widely available by 2026.
